WINGETS OPTION APPRAISAL FINAL REPORT PUBLISHED
Independent consultants Hilland Ritchie have presented their report on the future of Carntyne's Winget houses to Keystone Tenant Managed Homes local housing organisation and Glasgow Housing Association.
The report, which will be considered by both the Winget Strategy Group and GHA's Investment and Regeneration Committee later this week, investigates the technical and financial implications associated with addressing the problem with the Wingets houses.
The report identifies three options:
- To repair the defective properties
- To demolish the properties and build new homes
- A mixture of repair and new build.
Hilland Ritchie deem all three options viable and recommended that two pilot repair projects be undertaken in order to validate cost and determine the future life expectancy and subsequent mortgageability of the properties.
Subject to the successful completion of the pilots, the report proposes the best option is the mixture of repair and new build.
Hilland Ritchie also recommend that GHA should engage with Glasgow City Council, Communities Scotland and the Scottish Executive to seek support on addressing the financial implications for owners, particularly the statutory Improvement and Repair Grant system administered by the council.
GHA's Head of Asset Planning and Programme Development, Duncan McLean, said:
"We welcome this report, which is an important milestone in determining the future of the Wingets properties and the Carntyne community. We will continue to work with Carntyne residents, Keystone LHO and other parties over the coming months to identify a workable solution for all."
