A Little Bit About Restaurant 55?
"Elgin's Best Hidden Secret!"
3 months shortly after opening 55 was selected by the "Hidden Places of Scotland" Good Food Guide as being better than every other restaurant in town.
So why not check out what we have to offer? We promise you won't be disappointed!
Our attention to detail is second nature to us and our staff. Providing the best value for money in town whilst doing our bit to support the local community and striving to reduce our environmental impact are core values for 55.
55 is not a restaurant it is more of a concept, brainchild of former Elgin Academy pupil & talented Chef Dave Buchanan, it brings together many aspects of business under one roof. Dave has worked in some of Scotland's biggest and most exclusive resorts, also internationally in the Middle East and continuing his post as personal chef to the Baron of Lee at his Lanarkshire estate, he has now decided to bring some of Gourmet Glasgow to Elgin and the Moray area.
Watch out for the YouTube videos he tried to ban! Weakest Link appearance coming soon...
The commitment to our Green Policy helps reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.
Elgin's best coffee, great food, cheeky service and the thought you are supporting a business committed to helping make a difference in the world is important to many of you and also all @ 55.
55 Announces Latest Award!
CEIM is a charitbale organisation encompassing 5 local charities whose aims are to reduce, reuse and recycle waste of all kinds in Moray.
At their inaugural awards ceremony on Monday 19th November 55 was given a Certificate of Commendation for our recycling efforts and our green approach to business.
Please visit the CEIM website and see what good works they are doing and who knows you may learn a thing or two about being a bit more green!
A special thanks to Isobel Tesch for organising a wondeful event also attended by local councillor Alister Bisset & Local MSP Richard Lochhead from the Scottish Government who presented all the awards.
55 Back In The Day
We haven't always looked like this...
Firstly we were the "Rowan Tree Tea Rooms" and sandwiched inbetween then and now "Caper's Bistro". Ultimately we have taken an old concept and given it a facelift and given it fresh, new blood.
Elgin's 1st WiFi HotSpot uses our website to announce its ever-changing line up of information and menus.
We see 55 as a culmination of many years hard work, with a few tweaks here and there we have brought it into the 21st Century with a crisp, clean new look.
If you have any comments or suggestions on how we could improve our venue, menu or service please don't hesitate to get in touch with us!
Our Philosophy
Combine the best of locally available produce, modern cooking styles with an emphasis on simplicity & quality to produce an outstanding meal!
Coupled together with our fabulous and sometimes cheeky service makes "55" the place to be!
Sourcing only the best local produce we work in conjunction with Campbell Prime Meat, master butchers and Stevie Fish to ensure quality does the talking. They supply the finest Scottish beef and you're safe in the knowledge their produce has full traceability. Michelin Award Winning chef Martin Wishart uses them, so they must be good!
Buying good, fresh produce is easy. Doing very little to it and putting it straight onto a plate takes nerve and courage. Which our chef has by the bucketload.
Thankfully this is rewarded when you, our customers, pass comment on even the simplest of details. From Bread rolls and the butter to our unique blend of organic coffee with truffles...

"At long last, Elgin has what it's been crying out for for years, i.e. sexy food at affordable prices. The fact that the place is regularly packed to the rafters would indicate that a lot of people agree with me. Go on, treat yourself- you know you're worth it!"
D Milligan, Elgin
